*On February 23, 2020, more than 300 firefighters participated – our biggest firefighter turnout ever, each competing for fastest climb time wearing 50lbs+ of protective firefighting gear.
BC’s firefighting community is central to the BC Lung Association’s annual Climb the Wall stair climb event, and we are extraordinarily grateful for their support and involvement. *Check back next week – March 2 – for a list of all the firefighting teams who participated and galleries of photos from the event!* WHAT DO FIREFIGHTERS WEAR TO CLIMB? Firefighters each participate wearing more than 50lbs of firefighter ‘Turnout Gear’ including: Boots Pants (with liners intact) Coat (with liners intact) Helmet (hoods will not be worn) Gloves Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) Note: Each participant in the Firefighter division must wear gear that meets current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) structural firefighting standards. Gear that is found to be not fire department issue, and does not meet current NFPA requirements will subject the participant to disqualification for fastest climber. |
